two little letters ('n' and 'o')
Thank you for joining me here for this quiet little conversation, taking a moment to be with these thoughts, words and images.
Sometimes it is the simplest things that have a big impact on the quality of our lives, along with courage to move in a new direction, or perhaps a growing discomfort with the path we've been on.
The letters 'n' and 'o' have been key in my quest to live a life graced with calm and serenity. These two little letters helped me eradicate the high levels of chaos, stress and pain that used to characterize my days.
I understand deeply how hard it is to take that first step outside the expectations of society, our family, our friends...but the price of remaining in the bounds defined by others drains our life force and keeps us from making the mark the world needs us to make.
Start with a small 'no' and let that momentum energize the bigger no's - sometimes the no will be easy and graceful...other times it may be initially heavy and painful. When we are able to release ourselves from patterns and enmeshments that don't support us, we open a lightness, a sacred space, a place for our own unique mark to shine in the world.
The weather has been cool here in Vancouver, too cool for dye painting in my outdoor studio space. One of the few warm days we've had gave me a window to conduct some quick dye tests on cloth, leading me to order some new dye supplies. Hopefully they will arrive early next week and I'll soon be creating beautiful big buckets of cloth like this, all ready to be processed, folded and merged in to my cloth painting palettes.
And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples, and look to them as an example as they find their voices amidst the noise and obfuscation of colonization.
until next time,
Mardell
