falling in love (there's more than one way)

Thank you for joining me here for this quiet little conversation, taking a moment to be with these thoughts, words and images.

I used to live in an architect designed home, built to custom spec featuring open minimalist spaces with beautiful wood floors, richly coloured stone fixtures, and elegant windows that graced every room with beauty, light and a feeling of spaciousness.

I left that home many years ago and moved to the sweet little townhouse I live in now.  While I am deeply grateful to have a safe home...a peaceful home...for the longest time I found it hard to be in love with this home the way I was with my previous home.

I've come to understand I can love the spaces in this home in a different way...like this little corner of my living room where there is light, and art and fresh flowers from a few container pots on my deck. Or the tucked away spaces for my studio and art supplies...and the rooftop deck where the magic of my painted cloth happens, where I can watch the sky from a hammock or stich away in a comfy deck chair looking across the road at the little forest that exists in my corner of the city.

Now, whenever I find myself feeling like I'm missing out, or falling behind, I remind myself to look for the shift in perspective that lets me see the situation through the eyes of love rather than through the eyes of lack.

And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples, and look to them as an example as they find their voices amidst the noise and obfuscation of colonization.

until next time,

Mardell
