getting here from there

wild coast beach - near Esowista on the territories of the Tla-o-qui-aht Peoples

Welcome again to quiet little conversations...making a space for peace, grace and serenity with words, thoughts and images.

On this day, I am again thankful to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples, and I honour the grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples.

I'm grateful too for the replies you're sending: so much richness...so thoughtful and impactful. Here's to more of this!

you might be surprised to find out i haven't always lived a peaceful life, creating these paintings from cloth, stitched with thread by hand and by machine, infused with quiet and light

one of the first things i did to step on to this path was to begin a gratitude practice...about a decade ago the book 'Simple Abundance' by Sarah Ban Breathnach caught my attention at a used bookstore...there is a page for each day of the year which holds an idea to help you examine something in your life where you can choose to feel abundant or perhaps grateful

i worked thru every single page of this book for several years, even on the days when i thought i would shatter from the challenges in front of me. i have a different kind of gratitude practice now but it is equally foundational in the ways it shows me what an incredible life i am fortunate to live

i'm deeply grateful for the ways this practice led me here to this place where i get to create work that calls you and i both towards serenity, towards sanctuary...towards grace

a little peak at the second painting in the juxtapositions series...making a statement with the contrasting light thread against the deeper blue...

until next time,

Mardell
