telling you a more beautiful story

‘choosing grace (passageways #8)’

2018

cloth, thread, dye, mounted on custom metal

16” x 15” x 2”

Thank you for joining me here in this week's quiet little conversation, I really appreciate that you spend this time with my words, thoughts and images.

All week I've delayed sitting down to write this, deeply impacted by the situation in Ukraine and yet wanting to hold a space for you and I that is centering...grounding...safe.

And so I set an intention for peace, for being grounded and for being a light shining in these difficult times. I am inspired by the ways the democracies of the world are taking decisive action and by the incredible courage of the people of Ukraine. And I shine light for the people of Russia, who are also in a challenging time. May we all be safely held in the coming days.

recently i received some very valuable feedback about the images on my website and it was this: the impact of my work derives from colour and texture, and yet the pictures weren't doing justice to the richness, the subtle colour stories in the cloth and the interplay of the thread and the light

so i made you a thing...a new version of my website, where the pages are filled with texture, dripping with colour, deliciously satisfying, almost as good as being with the paintings in real life

i would love for you to see for yourself if this experience is more tactile...more immersive

Lastly, I am leaving you with a photo of a beautiful sky, beautiful waves and beautiful sand from this beloved beach which always brings me back to my center.

And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples.

until next time,

Mardell
