the stories we tell - modifying the trajectory of our lives
Thank you for joining me here for this quiet little conversation, taking a moment to be with these thoughts, words and images.
Each of us has a story we tell ourselves and others about who we are and what our lives are about. It gives us context...structure...meaning. Some people’s entire lives unfold along the storyline they have envisioned while for others there are massive theme changes triggered by events like meeting a great love, moving to an unfamiliar part of the world, or perhaps acting on an unexpected opportunity.
With the pace and distractions of modern life, it can be a challenge to stop and take time to evaluate if the story we're being held by (sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a holding back way) still makes sense, or if it's time to write in some new context or direction. When we hear the guidance or the nudge we can begin to make those changes, or if life detects we aren't taking action in a new direction the nudge might become more of a shove. I have always found peoples’ stories to be fascinating both in hearing their trajectory, but also in observing and celebrating the ways people have honoured and integrated the twists and turns their lives have taken. It's in these liminal times where magic can arise from the cracks that are created by unforeseen circumstances, while we are suspended between the story that was, and the story that is becoming.
And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples, and look to them as an example as they find their voices amidst the noise and obfuscation of colonization.
until next time,
Mardell
