the thread is calling

grey blacks easing into turquoise on the third juxtapositions painting

Thank you for being here for this quiet little conversation, taking a pause and engaging with these thoughts, words and images, creating a moment for serenity, for breath and for respite.

over stimulated, angst, hyper sensitive to the ongoing traumas in the world needing a refuge to slow the breath calm the systems of the body and mind finding again the center letting the noise fall away to be present and able to offer the qualities of stillness and peace to the collective

Letting the art of Sara Genn and Mia Farrington create a space for quiet restoraction with their beautiful freehand forms, letting the elegance of minimalism remind us of grace

for the longest time this painting was waiting to be finished...all the thread ends from the machine stitching ready to be threaded thru to the back

over the years several people have asked me to leave these loose threads on the surface of my paintings but it felt messy and chaotic

this was the first painting where I very nearly left the threads but finally each one was finished them invisibly in the layers of the painting. I tried several options to see what hand stitches the painting might be asking for but in the end, it declined them all

and yet...those dark threads with their graceful presence are still calling me...i wonder are they calling you too?

And as always, I want to express my gratitude to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples.I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples.

until next time,

Mardell
