cloth as a language of life

cloth, painted with thickened dyes, marks of the hand

Welcome again to quiet little conversations...making a space for peace, grace and serenity with words, thoughts and images.

I'm really glad you're here for another quiet little conversation...let's hold a space for peace, grace and serenity with words, thoughts and images.

In light of some of the current happenings in the world I am feeling especially fortunate to be living and working on the ancestral & unceded territories of the hən̓̓qəmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. I honour the incredible depths of grace, courage and perseverance of Indigenous Peoples.

Several people have commented on how the words I write alongside my art feel like poetry to them.  I'm inspired to find a way for this free form poetry to be somehow more directly a part of my cloth paintings. This week I received a most amazing insight from one of the beautiful bright lights in my life -  it's going to be so cool to see how this develops.

cloth palette for the fourth juxtapositions painting

cloth...was my creative language long before i was led to the path of being an artist

cloth...was part of almost failing eighth grade home economics...the apron and baby doll pajama projects so out of synch with my fierce feminist thoughts as a teen of the 1970s

cloth...making my clothing got me through university/corporate career/marriage/children/divorce...the tactile nature of cloth and the processes of garment creation a calming and familiar oasis in the busyness of making a life

cloth...as an artist, the magical alchemy of dye, thread and markmaking a catalyst for growth and evolution
